Welding students at Pennsylvania College of Technology are the spark behind an ambitious Spring Semester initiative that will benefit Little League Baseball. About 70 students in five sections of his Welding Blueprint & Layout II class are fabricating a stainless-steel globe to be placed on the Little League complex in South Williamsport.

Although Penn College students were on Spring Break last week, their caring efforts still made an impact in the local community, as the Office of Student Engagement’s Spring Break Donation Initiative delivered gifts to four local nonprofit organizations. The items were made possible by Penn College students who have worked on various service projects throughout the Spring Semester, including creating care kits and homemade dog toys.

A call comes in from the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety’s 911 Center, reporting lost and injured hikers are in the woods on the property of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. Fielding the dispatch are students enrolled in the college’s emergency management & homeland security major, who promptly set their training and skills into motion for a search and rescue full-scale exercise that also involves forest technology students.
